The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague is expected to issue an arrest warrant for President al-Bashir on March 4. The Sudanese president has been accused of orchestrating a campaign of violence against Darfurs ethnic Fur, Masalit, and Zaghawa. Amnesty International says 300,000 people have been killed and nearly 3 million others displaced since the attacks began in 2003. If the warrant is granted and an arrest carried out, Bashir would become the first sitting head of state to be tried before the ICC since the court opened its doors in 2002.
Panelists for the roundtable include: Alex de Waal, program director at the Social Science Research Council; Mahmood Mamdani, a professor of government and anthropology at Columbia University; and Peter Rosenblum, a professor of human rights law at Columbia Law School.
