New York University’s Program in Vocal Performance will present Candide from April 2 - April 5 at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street. Candide features music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by John Latouche, Richard Wilbur, and Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Hugh Wheeler. With songs including “Glitter And Be Gay,” “It Must Be So,” and “I’m Easily Assimilated,” the original version of Candide opened on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre on December 1, 1956. The Show has been revived several times, most recently on Broadway in 1997 (directed by Harold Prince).
NYU’s production will be directed by William Wesbrooks, with music direction by Michael Ricciardone and choreography by Stephanie Lang. The cast and orchestra will feature talented students from NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
