Abel Laureate-Winner of $950,000 Purse-to Be Available to Press at Celebration Today, March 26, in His Honor
- WHAT: The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters today announced that it was awarding the 2009 Abel Prize - the Nobel Prize of mathematics - to New York University Professor Mikhail Gromov for his contributions to geometry. The award is accompanied by a prize of $950,000. Gromov, a professor at NYUs Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, is the third NYU mathematician to win the prize in the last five years.
