New York University’s New Plays for Young Audiences will present staged readings of Nasty, a new play that explores the online and offline worlds of adolescent teenage girls, on June 13 and 14 at the Black Box Theatre, 82 Washington Square East. The production runs on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. [Subway: A, C, D, E, F (West 4th St.)]

Ages 12 and up: Nasty, by Ramon Esquivel, tells the story of three teenage girls whose social lives are dominated by online avatars and text messaging. When a friendly boy - who happens to be gay - rebuffs the flirtations of one of the girls, they engage in a smear campaign that will have unexpected consequences for them all. This play is appropriate for middle and high school audiences and is a must for parents of teenagers.

A workshop for audience members will follow the Saturday matinee performance at 3:00 p.m. An audience discussion with the playwright, director, and actors will follow the Sunday performance. To register and for reservations, please call the box office at 212.998.5867.

All performances are in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $5 for adults and FREE for children, high school students, or with a valid NYU ID. Reporters interested in attending should contact Tim Farrell, Office of Public Affairs, by phone at 212.998.6797 or by email at tim.farrell@nyu.edu.
