Deutsches Haus at New York University, located at 42 Washington Mews (at University Place), will host several special events in February, including a reading on February 17 by best-selling German crime novelist Andrea Maria Schenkel from her new book, Bunker.   • Tues., Feb. 3, 6 p.m. Discussion: “What Difference Will the Difference Make?” The Obama administration is expected to extricate America from the predicament created by the last administration. Panelists, from their varied European and American perspectives, will discuss their expectations, hopes, and reservations. Panelists include Ulrike Guérot, European Council on Foreign Relations; Andrian Kreye, Süddeutsche Zeitung; Kori Schake, Hoover Institution, Stanford University; Xudong Zhang, NYU; and Jianying Zha, The New School. Moderated by NYU professor Marcia Pally.
  • Fri., Feb. 6, 6 p.m. Film: Willenbrock (directed by Andreas Dresen, 2005, 103 min). In German with English subtitles.
  • Fri., Feb. 13, 6 p.m. Exhibition Opening: “Stolen Glances.” Works by Austrian artist Heike Scholl. On view through Mar. 13.
  • Tues., Feb. 17, 7 p.m. Reading: Best-selling German crime novelist Andrea Maria Schenkel reads from her most recent novel, Bunker, in English and German. Schenkel’s two earlier novels, Tannöd and Kalteis, won Germany’s Deutsche Krimi Preis, awarded annually to the country’s best crime novel. Tannöd recently also received Sweden’s Martin Beck Award.
  • Fri., Feb. 20, 6:30 p.m. Film Screenings: An evening of short films, with an introduction and Q&A with the director, Michael Blume. Films are in German with English subtitles.
  • Tues., Feb. 24, 7 p.m. Film Screening and Discussion: The film Er, der Hut, sitzt auf ihm, dem Kopf (2006, 52 min) presents seven love stories by Walser as a “visual book,” with the voice of Bruno Ganz. Introduction and Q&A with the director, Walo Deuber. In German and English.
  • Fri., Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m. Reading: Deutsches Haus writer-in-residence Thomas Pletzinger reads from his work in German and English.
