The Telephone is an English-language comic opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti. It tells the tale of an ardent suitor and his chatterbox girlfriend, who foils any and all attempts at a marriage proposal by becoming involved in a lengthy phone conversation at the crucial moment.

Trouble in Tahiti (composed by Leonard Bernstein) tells the story of Sam and Dinah, a couple who are locked not only in their own imperfect marriage, but are also imprisoned by the friction of postwar suburban bliss.

NYU’s production will be directed by Dianna Heldman, with music direction by Grant Wenaus. The cast and orchestra will feature the talented undergraduate and graduate students from NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
