The sounds of world music for kids will fill the auditorium when the New York-based band Hot Peas ‘N Butter performs for one show only at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South). Tickets are $22 and are available at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu, by phone at 212.352.3101, or at the box office from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Winners of the 2006 and 2008 “Parent’s Choice Awards,” Hot Peas ‘N Butter is a unique children’s musical group that incorporates elements of traditional Latin music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, jazz, folk, and rock. Danny Lapidus and Francisco Cotto bring a sense of fun and funk to the stage, inspiring kids and adults to get up from their seats and dance.

Hot Peas ‘N Butter has performed on Noggin and Nickelodeon, (perfect for ages 3 and older). However, the group has also been heard on XM and Sirius Satellite Radio and will appeal to adults as well. “Mom and Dad will appreciate the music’s eclectic sounds, which mirror a tot’s mood: one minute up, the next down,” according to Time Out New York.

Hot Peas ‘N Butter is part of the Skirball Center’s Big Red Chair Family Series, which includes fun and affordable multi-arts family performances. The final show in the series this season is Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, presented by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, May 9, $22.

The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, now in its fifth year, is the premiere venue for the presentation of cultural and performing arts events for NYU and lower Manhattan. For a current listing of the Skirball Center’s 2008-2009 season of events visit: www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu.
