New York University s Jason Samuels, an associate professor at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, has been named senior series producer of BET News Heart of the City, a new, one-hour, primetime documentary series that will explore the most important issues affecting urban America in the 21st century.
New York Universitys Jason Samuels, an associate professor at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, has been named senior series producer of BET News Heart of the City, a new, one-hour, primetime documentary series that will explore the most important issues affecting urban America in the 21st century.
Samuels has previously been a senior producer at both ESPNs primetime newsmagazine E:60 and ABC News World News with Charles Gibson. In addition, Samuels has served as the senior producer in charge of the ABC News two weekend evening news broadcasts, World News Saturday and World News Sunday.
Before joining ABC News, Samuels spent 12 years as a producer for NBC News where he produced and worked on many award-winning projects for the broadcast newsmagazine Dateline NBC. At Dateline, Samuels produced A Pattern of Suspicion, a 2004 examination of racial profiling that received some of the most prestigious prizes in broadcast journalism, including an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, an RTNDA/Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Investigative Reporter and Editor Award.
Samuels, an Emmy-Award winner, began his journalism career as a news writer and producer at WCVB-TV in Boston.
Heart of the City premieres Saturday, September 12 at 10 p.m, with a look at the striking failures of the Detroit public school system.
