NYU Conference Runs May 31 - June 2, 2009 in NYC

Bjorn Hanson, Ph.D., a clinical associate professor at the NYU Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management, will moderate the annual Economists’ Update, featuring well-known economists Bernard Baumohl and David Wyss, at the 31st Annual NYU Hospitality Industry Investment Conference. Hosted by the NYU Tisch Center and sponsored by the leading hospitality organizations, the conference is the premier hospitality finance and development forum of its kind where global hotel CEOs, analysts, and other hospitality leaders gather to discuss current and future developments in the industry.

On Monday, June 1, 2009, at The Waldorf=Astoria in New York City, Dr. Hanson-a widely respected hospitality and travel researcher who created econometric models that transformed business analysis in the field-will present on the economy’s effects on lodging demand, both long- and short-term, and the implications for the future. Bernard Baumohl, chief global economist of The Economic Outlook Group, and David A. Wyss, Ph.D., chief economist for Standard & Poor’s, will provide their perspectives about the economy, trends, and outlook, especially as related to consumers and the lodging industry. Panel topics will include timing and magnitude of the economic recovery; when, and to what level, lodging demand will recover; the long-term effects of government actions and programs on consumers, businesses, and lodging; and detailed forecasts of critical economic indicators.

“The Economists’ Update has always been among the most highly-anticipated segments of the NYU Hospitality Conference,” says Hanson. “And this year, more than ever, the opportunity to hear renowned economists Bernard Baumohl and David Wyss present their analyses, forecasts, and implications for the lodging industry will be an incredibly valuable part of this event.”

The conference chair and executive planning committee have developed an extraordinary program agenda for the industry’s extraordinary times. The conference features general sessions, workshops, and networking that provide insight, dialogue, and opportunity for those in the hotel investment and finance industry. Graduate and undergraduate students pursuing industry degrees at the NYU Tisch Center receive academic scholarships thanks to the generosity of conference patrons and sponsors.

Registration for the conference is open, and the full program agenda is now available online. For more information, please visit www.nyu.edu/hospitalityconference or follow NYU on Twitter.
