The New York University Creative Writing Program Spring 2009 Reading Series concludes in May with several special readings and events. All events take place in the program’s Greenwich Village home, the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House, 58 W. 10th Street, unless otherwise noted. The series is free and open to the public.   • Fri., May 1, 5 p.m. Dramatic Reading: “Daughters of Troy.” Writers Sarah Arvio, Jill Bialosky, Honor Moore, Victoria Redel, and Mark Rudman read from the Euripides play, Daughters of Troy, translated by Rudman and Katherine Washburn in Euripides, 3.
  • Sat., May 2, 2-5 p.m. Poetry Reading and Panel Discussion: “A Celebration of New European Poets.” A panel discussion at 2 p.m., followed by a reading at 3:30 p.m., celebrates the book New European Poets (Graywolf, 2008). The event features Christopher Bakken, Peter Covino, Marilyn Hacker, Rika Lesser, Murat Nemet-Nejat, Adam Sorkin, and Alissa Valles, and is hosted by anthology editors Wayne Miller and Kevin Prufer. Co-sponsored with the Poetry Society of America, Graywolf Press, and PEN America. Part of PEN World Voices: A New York Festival of International Literature.
  • Thurs., May 7 and Fri., May 8, 7 p.m. Creative Writing Program Graduate Student Readings: readings from thesis manuscripts of poetry and fiction.
  • Tues., May 12, 7 p.m. A Tribute to Jack Gilbert: This event honors Gilbert on the publication of his new book, The Dance Most of All (Knopf). Readers include Gilbert, Linda Gregg, Mary Karr, Henry Lyman, Meghan O’Rourke, and Gerald Stern. Co-sponsored by the Poetry Society of America, the Academy of American Poets, Poets House, and Alfred A. Knopf. Note venue: NYU Cantor Film Center, 38 E. 8th St.
