A series of poetry and fiction readings in Spanish by well-known Latin American and Latino/a writers will be hosted this fall by New York University’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, 53 Washington Square South. - On Wednesday, September 24, at 7:15 p.m., as part of the Creative Writing in Spanish events series, Latin American novelists Diamela Eltit, Margo Glantz, and Sylvia Molloy will read from their most recent published and unpublished work. Molloy is the Albert Schweitzer Professor in the Humanities at NYU.
- On Friday, September 26, at 7 p.m., “Homage to Juan Ramón Jimenez” will take place. There will be readings by Carmen Ciria and Hipólito González Navarro, a presentation of the art book La punta del iceberg; and a screening of the film El espacio de las apariencias, directed by Carmen Rico. Jimenez won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956.
- On Friday, October 17, at 6:15 p.m., two Peruvian poets - Domingo de Ramos and Roger Santibañez - will read.
- On Friday, December 5, at 6:15 p.m., two Latina poets from the southwestern U.S. - Rosa Alcalá and Carmen Giménez-Smith - will read. Alcalá, from the University of Texas at El Paso, is author of Some Maritime Disasters This Century. Giménez-Smith teaches creative writing at New Mexico State University and is publisher of Noemi Press.
The last three readings are curated by Lila Zemborain, clinical professor in the NYU Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures.
