Glucksman Ireland House at New York University, located at One Washington Mews (at Fifth Avenue), will host several special events in September, including a reading by poets Chris Agee and Sinéad Morrissey from The New North,, an anthology of Northern Irish poetry, on September 30. Admission is free to members of Ireland House and those with an NYU ID; for all others, $10 admission to regular events and $15 for Blarney Star Concert Series events.   • Thurs., Sept. 11, 7 p.m. Glucksman Ireland House marks 1st Irish, with a panel discussion on contemporary Irish theatre. Moderated by writer Belinda McKeon, with Ciarán O’Reilly, Irish Repertory Theater; George C. Heslin, Origin Theatre Company; and NYU Professor John P. Waters. In association with 2008-1st Irish, a festival of Irish theatre in New York City hosted by Origin Theatre Company. Visit www.1stIrish.org.
  • Fri., Sept. 12, 9 p.m. The Blarney Star Concert Series: Brian Conway and Brendan Dolan. Bronx native Conway is the leading exponent of the celebrated Co. Sligo fiddle-style in North America. Pianist Dolan and other musical friends will join Conway for this evening.
  • Thurs., Sept. 18, 7 p.m. Reading: acclaimed author Gerard Donovan reads from Young Irelanders, stories that explore recent changes in Irish culture and society. Donovan is the author of Schopenhauer’s Telescope, nominated for the Man Booker Prize, Julius Winsome, and Sunless.
  • Thurs., Sept. 25, 7 p.m. Poetry reading: award-winning poets Iggy McGovern and Nell Regan read from their works. McGovern’s The King of Suburbia received both the Ireland Chair of Poetry Bursary and the inaugural Glen Dimplex New Writers Award for Poetry in 2006. Regan’s debut collection, Preparing for Spring, was nominated for the 2007 Glen Dimplex New Writers Award for Poetry.
  • Tues., Sept. 30, 7 p.m. Reading: the publication of The New North, an anthology of Northern Irish poetry, is celebrated with readings from the book by poets Chris Agee, who edited the volume, and Sinéad Morrissey. Co-sponsored with the Northern Ireland Bureau, Tourism Ireland, Invest Northern Ireland, and the NYU Creative Writing Program.
