Preview Works by Choreographers Ronald K. Brown and William Forsythe
The Second Avenue Dance Company (SADC) will present its winter concert series featuring previews of one work each by choreographers Ronald K. Brown and William Forsythe in three performances from December 4-6, 2008. The series will also include work by nine student choreographers as well as Tisch student designs in lighting and costuming.
The featured previews are: Serving Nia, a dance of spiritual commitment choreographed by Ronald K. Brown and restaged for SADC, for 16 male/female dancers; and Room/Room (working title), by William Forsythe, restaged for SADC by Forsythe dancer Jill Johnson, a work based on the original movement phrases and governing principals of Forsythe’s, Room as It Was, 2004, for alternating casts of 8 and 10.
The student choreographers are: Jesse Beck, Elizabeth Beres, Lauren Etter, Ashley Lynn Marinelli, Elliott Reiland, Laurel Snyder, Emily F. Watson, and Samuel Wentz/Nick Strafaccia. The student works will appear in rotating order with the guest works.
The three-performance series opens Thursday, December 4 and runs through Saturday, December 6. Curtain is 8 p.m. Admission is free. Performances will take place in the Fifth Floor Theatre, located at 111 Second Avenue. For detailed information, Mon.-Fri., between 1 and 5 p.m., call 212.998.1982.
Second Avenue Dance Company is the resident dance company of the Department of Dance in the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. It comprises students in their final year of training and is designed to serve as the dancers’ transition into the professional world of dance. Cherylyn Lavagnino is chair of the Department of Dance. Lavagnino and Jaclynn Villamil co-direct the Second Avenue Dance Company.
