The New York University Creative Writing Program Fall 2008 Reading Series concludes in December with three special events. For more information, call 212.998.8816 or visit www.cwp.fas.nyu.edu.

On Thursday, December 4 at 8 p.m., the world premieres of MacArthur fellow and poet Anne Carson’s “STACKS” and “BRACKO” will take place at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South). In “STACKS” language, dance, and sculpture collide as themes of collapse in the human body, grammar, and everyday objects are explored. In “BRACKO” Carson’s celebrated translations of If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho are performed. Admission: tickets are $10; free with NYU ID. They are available online at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu; by phone: 212.352.3101; or in person at the Skirball Center’s Shagan Box Office, Tues.-Sat., noon-6 p.m.

On Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m., a reading by undergraduate Creative Writing Program students of original poetry and fiction will take place at the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House, located at 58 W. 10th Street. This event is hosted by Matthew Rohrer and is free.

Also, on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m., NYU’s Emerging Writers Reading Series will take place at KGB Bar, 85 E. 4th Street. The series showcases the talent of the Creative Writing Program’s graduate students. Special guest on December 5 will be Edward Hirsch, author of seven books of poems, including Wild Gratitude, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, and, most recently, Special Orders (2008). Hirsch is currently president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
