Yale University Professor Hazel V. Carby will deliver a public lecture, Belonging to Britain, on Wed., Nov. 5, 5 p.m., at the Humanities Initiative at NYU (20 Cooper Square, Fifth Fl., between 5th and 6th Sts.). Carbys research focuses on detecting and probing discrepancies between the symbolic constructions of the black experience and the actual lives of African Americans. Among her books are Reconstructing Womanhood, Race Men, and Cultures in Babylon. She is currently working on Child of Empire: Racializing Subjects in Post-WWII Britain.
