To foster a dialogue on employing public policy to create jobs that lift working families out of poverty, Local 32BJ, together with the Community Service Society, the National Employment Law Project, and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, is bringing together key government, academic, civic and labor leaders and policy makers for “The Summit on Eliminating Poverty Among the Working Poor.”

The day-long summit will be held on Friday, March 14 at Local 32BJ in Manhattan at 101 6th Avenue (6th Avenue between Grand and Watts streets).

Mike Fishman, President, SEIU 32BJ, will open the summit. Ellen Schall, Dean, NYU Wagner, will deliver opening remarks. Eileen Appelbaum, Professor of Labor Studies, Rutgers University, will offer framing remarks.

Cecilia Estolano, CEO of the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, is to provide the keynote address.

The daylong event includes panel and roundtable discussions on: Leveraging Cities’ Economic Tools to Create Middle Class Jobs; Measuring Poverty; Industry-Targeted Approaches for Improving Low Wage Jobs; and Discrimination & Access to Good Jobs.

Among the panel moderators are Juan Gonzalez, columnist, New York Daily News, and Steven Greenhouse, reporter, New York Times.
