A multimedia performance piece, “String Talks,” with MacArthur Award winning poet Anne Carson will take place on Friday, February 8, 7 p.m., at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place (Washington Square South). This special event features readings by Carson, the 2008 Lillian Vernon Writer-in-Residence in the NYU Creative Writing Program. The readings are accompanied by red string, Merce Cunningham dancers, and audiovisual elements, with the collaboration of Robert Currie, randomizer, and Mark Bibbins, introduction and backup vocals.

A classics scholar and the author of eight books of poetry, essays, and translation, Carson is the recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Award, the Lannan Award, the Pushcart Prize, the Griffin Trust Award for Excellence in Poetry, the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry, and a Guggenheim fellowship. Her most recent collection is Decreation: Poetry, Essays, Opera. Other works include The Autobiography of Red; Glass, Irony and God; Plainwater; The Beauty of the Husband: A Fictional Essay in 29 Tangos; and If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho.
The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York University, located at 566 LaGuardia Place off Washington Square South, provides a large-scale, professional performance space for university productions and events and live professional performances from around the world.
