Faculty Member Kay Cummings and Guest Artist Camille A. Brown Each Present a New Work
Performance Dates: March 6-8, 2008, at 8 P.M.
The Second Avenue Dance Company (SADC) will present a special March concert featuring one new work each by guest artist Camille A. Brown and Kay Cummings, associate arts professor and director of the Summer Residency program in the Department of Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. The concert, comprising three performances March 6-8, will also include one work each by eight student choreographers, as well as Tisch School student designs in lighting and costumes.
Happy Endings, a new theatre-dance piece for 22 dancers by Kay Cummings, uses text and movement to deal with the ideas of what was, what is, and what will be. Cummings, a 1996 recipient of the NYU Distinguished Teaching Medal, has numerous professional credits to her name. Rain, a new work by guest artist Camille A. Brown, has an original score by Chris Lancaster. It will explore the qualities and dynamics of movement that range from earthbound floorwork to suspended flying jumps. Through this journey, the work will transform into a solid body of rhythm and clear focus.
The student choreographers, whose works will be performed each night, are: Kelly Brunk, Meredith Moore, Patricia Noworol, ChristinaNoel Reaves, Khori Rogers, Sandra Ross, Alexander Schwartz, and Leia Weil.
The three performance concert series opens Thursday, March 6 and runs through Saturday, March 8. Curtain is 8 p.m. Admission is free. Performances will take place in the Fifth Floor Theatre, located at 111 Second Avenue. For detailed information and to make a reservation, call 212.998.1982 Mon.-Fri., between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m.
