NYU Wagner will host a timely forum on “Race, Gender and the 2008 Presidential Election” on Thursday, January 31, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The panel discussion will take place at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, The Rudin Family Forum for Civic Dialogue, The Puck Building, 2nd Floor, 295 Lafayette Street, Manhattan.

Sponsors include NYU Wagner’s Women of Color Policy Network, Research Center for Leadership in Action (RCLA), Alliance of Latino and Latin American Students, Asian Pacific Student Alliance, and Wagner Policy Alliance. Also sponsoring the event is the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Manhattan Chapter.

The 2008 presidential primaries have been a forum for many of the critical issues facing the country. However, race and gender, while examined through the lens of the careers of Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, have rarely transcended the candidates. Now that race, class and gender have been pushed to the surface, how should they be interpreted? How relevant are the issues to the larger campaign? Irrespective of who wins the White House, how relevant will these issues be to the next administration?

This forum will also address the often divergent interests of women, especially white women, and people of color.
