* MEDIA ADVISORY *
The NYU Wagner Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management will host a presidential candidates forum on United States transportation and infrastructure policies Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 8:30-to-10:30 a.m. at New York Universitys Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, 4th Floor, New York, N.Y.
All presidential candidates from both parities are invited, and participation by campaign representatives of several candidates, among them Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, has been confirmed.
Sam Schwartz, who writes a column on transportation for the New York Daily News and is a former New York City transportation official, will be the moderator.
Entitled Moving America Forward?, the forum is intended, in part, to fill a vacuum. While transportation and infrastructure issues are scarcely mentioned on the campaign trail, the winner of the 2008 presidential election will face huge concerns related to freight, air passengers, motorists, and commuters, as well as the nations aging infrastructure, spotlighted by the fatal Minnesota bridge collapse of August. The next president and Congress will also grapple with renewing $400 billion in transportation aid in his or her first year.
In addition to the Rudin Center a research institute of the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at NYU the forums co-sponsors include the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York; the American Society of civil Engineers; the CUNY Institute for Urban Systems; the General Contractors Association; the League of American Bicyclists; the Municipal Art Society; the Regional Plan Association; Transportation Alternatives; the University Transportation Research Center, Region 2; and the Wagner Transportation Association.
