An exhibition of photographs by Ariane Delacampagne entitled “Duende: Visages et Voix du Flamenco” (“Duende: Faces and Voices of Flamenco) from her 2007 book by the same name will be on display at New York University’s Maison Française (16 Washington Mews at University Place) from March 10 through April 8. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For further information, call 212.998.8750 or visit www.nyu.edu/maisonfrancaise.

An opening reception takes place on Friday, March 8, from 6-8 p.m.

The black-and-white photographs on display, taken in Spain, France, and other countries, document the art of flamenco. “The artists I photograph, whether known or unknown, professional or amateurs, interest me first and foremost as human beings,” Delacampagne says. “I strive to capture them in moments of grace, where, oblivious to their surroundings, they are absorbed in their dream of beauty.”

Delacampagne, born in Beirut, lives and works in New York City. Her work has been published in books, such as Princeton University Press’ Here be Dragons: A Fantastic Beastiary; exhibition catalogues; and in such periodicals as Chemins d’Etoiles and Nouvelles d’Arménie.

Her photographs have been shown in group shows and in individual exhibitions at Beirut’s Rochane Gallery; the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-arts, Nimes, France; and at the French Institute of Meknès in Morocco, among others.

Published by L’Archange Minotaure, the book includes text by Christian Delacampagne.
