The Atlantic and New York University’s Department of Journalism will co-host a news forum, “The Britney Show: The Rise of the 24/7 Celebrity News Cycle,” on Wed., March 26, 1 p.m., at NYU’s Department of Journalism (20 Cooper Square, between 5th and 6th Streets). Panelists include: Bonnie Fuller, editorial director of American Media and former editor of Us Weekly; Virginia Heffernan, columnist and critic, New York Times Magazine; Richard Johnson, editor, New York Post’s Page Six; Regis and Brandy Navarre, proprietors, paparazzi agency X17 and X17online.com; and David Samuels, contributing writer, The Atlantic.

The forum will dissect the rise of the paparazzi news culture and the public’s insatiable appetite for gossip and still and video images of the private lives of celebrities. Featured panelists will discuss the forces driving the evolution of the 24/7 celebrity news cycle and whether the media’s appetite for paparazzi products is a deadly habit or a normal part of the contemporary news business.
