New York University will host “Tempest Tossed,” two evenings devoted to Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. On Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m., three actors embodying all 11 characters will perform the play at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk St. [so. of Houston]; Subways: F, J, M, Z [Delancey Street]). On Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m., a panel discussion on the work, which will include playwright John Guare (Six Degrees of Separation, the musical version of Two Gentlemen of Verona), will take place at NYU’s Casa Italiana (24 W. 12 St. [betw. 5th and 6th Avenues]; Subways: 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, W [Union Square]).

The Oct. 1 performance, which was originally staged in Florence at NYU’s Villa La Pietra, is directed by Jim Calder, a faculty member in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The Oct. 2 panel discussion will include the following: Harry Berger Jr., professor emeritus of literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz and author of Second World and Green World: Studies in Renaissance Fiction Making; playwright Guare; and actress and director Elena Araoz, who recently helped to fashion the Providence-based theatrical company Aurea’s version of Christopher Logue’s Homeric variations, War Music.
