A year-long series of films featuring writers as protagonists entitled “Scribes on Screen: The Figure of the Writer in Film” will take place at New York University’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, 53 Washington Square South. The film series is held in conjunction with the inauguration of NYU’s new MFA program in Creative Writing in Spanish, and co-sponsored with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. - Tuesday, Oct. 9, 7:15 p.m. Antes que anochezca (Before Night Falls, about the Cuban writer Reynaldo Arenas), directed by Julian Schnabel. Film introduced by Enrique del Risco.
- Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7:15 p.m. Puig 95% de humedad (about Argentine writer Manuel Puig), directed by Mausi Martínez. Introduced by Javier Guerrero.
- Tuesday, Dec. 11, 7:15 p.m. Del olvido al no me acuerdo (on Mexican novelist Juan Rulfo), directed by his son José Carlos Rulfo. Introduced by the film’s editor, Ramón Cervantes.
