A year-long series of films featuring writers as protagonists entitled “Scribes on Screen: The Figure of the Writer in Film” will take place at New York University’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center, 53 Washington Square South. The film series is held in conjunction with the inauguration of NYU’s new MFA program in Creative Writing in Spanish, and co-sponsored with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. The fall semester film series schedule follows:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 9, 7:15 p.m. Antes que anochezca (Before Night Falls, about the Cuban writer Reynaldo Arenas), directed by Julian Schnabel. Film introduced by Enrique del Risco.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7:15 p.m. Puig…95% de humedad (about Argentine writer Manuel Puig), directed by Mausi Martínez. Introduced by Javier Guerrero.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 11, 7:15 p.m. Del olvido al no me acuerdo (on Mexican novelist Juan Rulfo), directed by his son José Carlos Rulfo. Introduced by the film’s editor, Ramón Cervantes.

Films are in Spanish, with English subtitles.
