Glucksman Ireland House at New York University, located at One Washington Mews (at Fifth Avenue), will host several special events in October, including the inaugural Irish Institute of New York Lecture on October 18 when the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, will speak on “New Ireland, New Church?”

All events take place at Ireland House, unless otherwise noted. Admission is free to members of Ireland House and those with an NYU ID; for all others, $10 admission to regular events and $15 for Blarney Star Concert Series events. Thursday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m.
Lecture on Ireland during the Second World War by Clair Wills, teacher of Irish literature at Queen Mary’s College, University of London, and author of That Neutral Island: A Cultural History of Ireland During the Second World War.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m.
Lecture on “Leopold Bloom and Irish Jewry” by Cormac Ó Gráda, author of Jewish Ireland in the Age of Joyce. Ó Gráda pits Joyce’s fictional character against a rather different historical reality.

Thursday, Oct. 11, 7 p.m.
Poetry reading, hosted by Daniel Tobin, author of three collections of poetry and a critical study of Seamus Heaney, and the editor of The Book of Irish American Poetry: From the Eighteenth Century to the Present, the first major anthology of Irish American poetry. He will be joined by poets Jean Valentine, Terence Winch, Joseph Lennon, and Greg Delanty.

Friday, Oct. 12, 9 p.m.
The Blarney Star Concert Series: Brendan Mulvihill, one of the world’s great Irish fiddlers. Currently based in Maryland, he is only occasionally seen in New York City.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m.
Inaugural Irish Institute of New York Lecture: “New Ireland, New Church?” by Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin. Funding for this permanent lecture series has been granted by the Irish Institute of New York, a philanthropic group that marked its 50th anniversary in 2000.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m.
Exhibition and panel discussion: marking the 20th anniversary of the Irish Immigration Reform movement, as well as the accession of its papers by the Archives of Irish America based in NYU’s Tamiment Library. Discussion led by NYU Professor Linda Almeida. Note venue: NYU Bobst Library, 70 Washington Square South, 10th floor.
