Professor Perry Halkitis, director of the Center for Health, Identity, Behaviors, and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS) at New York University, is available to comment on the recent report by the New York City Department of Health of an alarming rise in HIV infection among gay men in New York City under age 30.
Halkitis is professor of applied psychology at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, where he also serves as associate dean for research and doctoral studies. His research interests have focused on HIV prevention and education; treatment access and medication adherence among HIV infected individuals; developmental and contextual understandings of drug use and addiction; and conceptions of identity and human development.
