Glucksman Ireland House of New York University, located at One Washington Mews (at Fifth Avenue), will host several special events in November, including the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Memorial Lecture on November 5 which features global financier and philanthropist George Soros in conversation with New York Times columnist Frank Rich. Admission for all events, except for the November 5 Moynihan Memorial Lecture, is free to members of Ireland House and those with an NYU ID; for all others, $10 admission to regular events and $15 for Blarney Star Concert Series events. A schedule of events follows:

  • Friday, November 2, 9 p.m. The Blarney Star Concert Series: Oisín Mac Diarmada and Louise Mulcahy, two red-hot Irish music talents, appear. Mac Diarmada is best known as the leader of “Téada,” a great band with a sound built on his own unique fiddle style. Mulcahy, from the famed musical Mulcahy family, is the leading female uilleann piper in Ireland and a fabulous flute and whistle player besides.
  • Monday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m. Daniel Patrick Moynihan Lecture: Global financier and philanthropist George Soros in conversation with New York Times columnist Frank Rich. The lecture is named in honor of the late Senator and is intended to commemorate his intellectual contributions in a global sense. This event is co-sponsored with the NYU Stern School of Business. Note Venue: NYU’s Kimmel Center, Rosenthal Pavilion, 60 Washington Square South (at La Guardia Place).
  • Thursday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. Reading: Author Mary Gordon reads from her memoir Circling My Mother and The Stories of Mary Gordon, for which she won a Story Prize. Gordon is the recipient of a Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Writers’ Award and an Academy Award for Literature from the Academy of Arts and Letters.
  • Thursday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m. Reading: Irish poet Catherine Phil McCarthy reads from her third collection of poems, Suntrap. She will be introduced by Eamon Grennan, Dexter M. Ferry Jr. Professor of English at Vassar College.
  • Thursday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m. Ernie O’Malley Lecture Series: “Ireland, New York, and the 18th-Century Atlantic World” by Thomas M. Truxes, Trinity College, Hartford, and author of Irish Amerian Trade 1660-1783 and Letterbook of Greg & Cunningham: 1756-57: Merchants of New York and Belfast. His talk will be based on his current book project entitled New York at War: Trading with the Enemy and the Roots of the American Revolution.
