Deutsches Haus at New York University, located at 42 Washington Mews (at University Place), will host several special events in November, including the Otto and Ilse Mainser Lecture Series on November 15, with University of California Professor Larry Rickels speaking on “SPECTRE,” the third-party organization of opposition in the world of James Bond.   • Thursday, Nov. 1, 6:30 p.m. Lecture: “On War and Misjudgments” by Carol Emcke, reporter with Die Zeit. Note venue: 19 University Place, ground floor.
  • Friday, Nov. 2, 6:30 p.m. Reading: German-born New York-based poet Margot Scharpenberg reads from her work in German. Introduced by Peter Beiken, University of Maryland.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m. Next Generation Film 2007: a selection of short films by students at German film schools. Note venue: NYU Cantor Film Center, 36 E. 8th Street.
  • Thursday, November 8, 6 p.m. Exhibition opens: “Berlin/New York Dialogues.” Two of the world’s most dynamic urban centers, Berlin and New York, are making radical transformations in their streets and skylines. This exhibition explores lessons learned through the cross-fertilization of ideas among citizens, policy makers, institutions, and design professionals in Berlin and New York.   • Friday, Nov. 9, noon-5 p.m. Interactive Performance event: “KITCHEN La cuisine transportable,” a project by Thorsten Baensch and Christine Dupuis. A cardboard construction plastered with paper-plate drawings, handwritten recipes, notes, etc., the kitchen acts as a backdrop for the artists to barter soup, tea, and marzipan in return for visitors’ personal recipes or drawings. Note venue: NYU Kimmel Center Commuter Lounge, 60 Washington Square South.
  • Saturday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Exhibition/symposium: “Culture Kapital/Capital Kultur,” held in conjunction with the exhibition “Berlin-New York Dialogues.” Note venue: Center for Architecture, 736 LaGuardia Place.
  • Thursday, Nov. 15, 6:30 p.m. Otto and Ilse Mainzer Lecture: “SPECTRE” by Larry Rickels, University of California. Note venue: NYU Silver Center, Jurow Hall, 100 Washington Square East.
