Ambassador Holbrooke Moderates a Panel Discussion Commemorating World AIDS Day 2007
NYU’s Center for Global Affairs has teamed with Vital Voices Global Partnership and the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC) to present “Ending AIDS: Why the World Can’t Wait and What You Can Do,” a special event commemorating World AIDS Day, on Tuesday December 4th from 6-8 p.m. at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 Laguardia Place, NYC.
What will it take to end AIDS? The 2006 Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic prepared by the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS reports that an estimated 39 million people are infected with HIV around the world - nearly half are women and children. In 2005 alone, more than 2.8 million people lost their lives to AIDS. A roundtable discussion examines the global response to HIV/AIDS and features global leaders who call on all of us to act on this worldwide challenge - as students, diplomats, government officials, educators, businesspeople, and members of our respective communities.
World AIDS Day, observed December 1st annually, was created in 1988 at the World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention. Since that time it has been observed around the world by governments, charities, schools, and community organizations as a rallying point for AIDS education, research, and relief efforts.
