For many centuries Islam and the West have been intertwined. This is especially true in today’s Europe, where some 15-20 million people identify themselves as Muslims. The Nov. 6 roundtable discussion will focus specifically on Islamic women and youth in Europe. The event’s panelists include the following: Abdullah M. Alsaidi, ambassador and permanent representative of Yemen to the United Nations; Jon Benjamin, deputy consul-general of the United Kingdom; Jytte Klausen, professor of comparative politics at Brandeis University and author of The Islamic Challenge: Politics and Religion in Western Europe; and Piet de Klerk, deputy permanent representative of the Netherlands to the United Nations and former Netherlands ambassador-at-large for human rights. The roundtable will be moderated by Mustapha Tlili, founder and director of the Center for Dialogues.
