NEW YORK (October 9, 2007)-Joining the Division of Programs in Business at New York Universitys School of Continuing And Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) this fall are John Gamino, who will head up the Schools Accounting, Law and Taxation programs and Michael Oberstein, to lead professional studies programs in Finance. The two seasoned professionals, who both recently hail from Texas and have a combined half century of leadership experience in the financial, legal and accounting professions, will work together to provide high-quality professional education programs NYU-SCPS students.
The addition of Mr. Gamino and Mr. Oberstein reinforces our commitment to providing an intellectually challenging learning environment with an innovative, industry-driven curriculum. Their extensive experience, along with their significant accomplishments in the business world, complements our current faculty perfectly as we seek to diversify our already robust offerings, said Dr. Anthony Davidson, divisional dean and clinical professor of NYU-SCPS Division of Programs in Business.
About John Gamino
As academic chair and clinical assistant professor of the Accounting, Law and Taxation programs, Mr. Gamino will be responsible for the academic aspects these programs. He assumed this position in September 2007.
Gamino is a Certified Public Accountant, holds J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation degrees and has over 30 years of professional experience. He began his career as a litigator in Honolulu before transitioning to tax practice, and was most recently senior tax counsel with TXU Corp. in Dallas. John has been active in the American Bar Associations Tax Section and serves on the Advisory Committee of the ABA Task Force on the Attorney-Client Privilege. He has contributed to professional publications including The Tax Lawyer, Tax Notes and TAXES, The Tax Magazine.
About Michael Oberstein
As chair of Finance programs and clinical assistant professor at NYU-SCPS, Oberstein will oversee all of the professional studies courses and certificate programs in finance including: Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, Risk Management Finance, International Business and Finance, Investment Banking, Portfolio Management and Global Wealth Management. He will be teaching Finance courses and Investment Banking courses.
Oberstein holds an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School of Business. He has extensive background in banking, financial consulting, asset allocation, portfolio management, debt-equity financing, merger and acquisitions, start-ups, new business development, retirement 401(k) plans and global wealth management. His 20-year career includes positions with Lehman Brothers, Kuhn Loeb, and Bear Stearns as a vice president.
Oberstein has over 15 years of experience as CEO and founder of Wharton Income Group, an investment bank and wealth management startup firm that grew to amass a client asset base exceeding $350 million. His teaching experience includes: adjunct professor of finance at Brooklyn College, CUNY and assistant professor at NYU.
