Preview Works by Guest Choreographers Mark Morris and Christopher Williams

The Second Avenue Dance Company (SADC) will present its winter concert series featuring previews of one work each by guest choreographers Mark Morris and Christopher Williams in three performances from December 6-8, 2007. The series will also include work by eight student choreographers as well as Tisch student designs in lighting and costuming.

The featured previews are: New Love Songs Waltzes (1982), an important early work by Mark Morris for five men and five women to the music of Johannes Brahms’ Neue Leibeslieder Walzer, Opus 65; and The Voyage of the Húi Corra, by Christopher Williams, a dance for four men and a chorus of 12 women that was inspired by early Irish adventure tales known as “voyaging” and set to excerpts of the 14th-century Le Messe De Tournai. Student choreographers are: Chelsea M. Bonosky, Clare Cook, Carlos A. Cruz Velá¡zquez, Philip Montana, Ariana Siegel, Sydney Skybetter, Anna K. Whaley, and Yin Yue.

The three-performance concert series opens Thursday, December 6 and runs though Saturday, December 8. Curtain is 8 p.m. Admission is free. SADC is the resident dance company of the Department of Dance in the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. It comprises students in their final year of training and is designed to serve as the dancers’ transition into the professional world of dance. Cherylyn Lavagnino is chair of the Department of Dance. Lavagnino and Jaclynn Villamil co-direct the Second Avenue Dance Company.
