The reading features Levine, with fellow writers Kate Daniels, E.L. Doctorow, Edward Hirsch, Galway Kinnell, Yusef Komunyakaa, Malena Mörling, Sharon Olds, Tom Sleigh, Gerald Stern, Jean Valentine, and Charles Wright.

Currently the Distinguished Poet-in-Residence at NYU, Levine is the author of 16 collections of poetry, most recently Breath. His other poetry collections include The Mercy; The Simple Truth, which won the Pulitzer Prize; What Work Is, recipient of the National Book Award; Ashes: Poems New and Old, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the first American Book Award for Poetry; 7 Years From Somewhere, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award; and The Names of the Lost, recipient of the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize.

Levine has also published a collection of essays, The Bread of Time: Toward an Autobiography, edited The Essential Keats, and co-edited and translated Off the Map: Selected Poems of Gloria Fuertes and Tarumba: The Selected Poems of Jaime Sabines.
