Dennis Cooper, acclaimed writer most recently of God Jr., will read from his novella, “The Ash Gray Proclamation,” to celebrate the publication of The Apocalypse Anthology, edited by Justin Taylor (Thunder’s Mouth Press), at New York University’s Fales Library, 3rd floor of NYU’s Bobst Library, located at 70 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place). The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place on Thursday, November 29, at 6:30 p.m. For further information and to make a reservation, call 212.992.9018 or email rsvp.bobst@nyu.edu.

In his first appearance at NYU since 2000, Cooper, whose papers are held in Fales, appears on a behalf of an anthology of new and selected short stories about the end of the world. Cooper’s story, “The Ash Gray Collection,” was previously only available in the liner notes to a CD and is collected here for the first time.

Cooper is the author of The George Miles Cycle, an interconnected sequence of five novels that includes Closer, Frisk, Try, Guide, and Period. “In another country or another era,” said The New York Times of Cooper’s work, “[his] books would be circulated in secret, explosive samizdat editions that friends and fans would pass around like forbidden absinthe…This is high-risk literature.”
