First Formal Department of Endodontics in the U.S.

New York University College of Dentistry’s Department of Endodontics is celebrating its 80th anniversary on Wednesday, June 13, 2007. The celebration will begin with an afternoon scientific session at the NYU College of Dentistry (Room 614, 345 East 24th Street, NYC) followed by a reception and dinner at The Water Club, 500 East 30th Street, New York, NY, at 5:30pm.

“Throughout its history, endodontics at NYU has led the field, especially its specialty training program, which constantly ranks as one of the top programs of its kind in the nation,” said Interim Dean Richard I. Vogel, DMD. “The department also enjoys the distinction of being the first named department of endodontics in the U.S., the Dr. Ignarius N. and Sally Quartararo Department of Endodontics.”

The Department of Endodontics was established in 1926 as the first independent endodontics department in the nation. As a leader in the education of predoctoral students, the department has contributed significantly to endodontic education in this country. Particular success has been achieved by the Advanced Education Program in Endodontics, which enjoys a worldwide reputation for innovation and the achievements of its faculty and alumni.
