Four filmmakers from New York University are among the winners in this year’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 34th Annual Student Academy Awards® competition. The 2007 winners-11 students in all representing six colleges and universities-were announced on June 9 at a ceremony at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA.

Four filmmakers from New York University are among the winners in this year’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 34th Annual Student Academy Awards® competition. The 2007 winners-11 students in all representing six colleges and universities-were announced on June 9 at a ceremony at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA.

The NYU filmmakers are from the Kanbar Institute of Film & Television at the Tisch School of the Arts (TSOA) and the Journalism Department in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). They walked away with one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal.

The NYU Gold medal winner in the Animation category is: Sarah Wickliffe ‘06 (TSOA /Kanbar undergraduate alumna) for Art’s Desire. The Silver medal winner in the Documentary category is Megan Thompson (GSAS student) for Ladies of the Land. In the Narrative category, the Silver medal and Bronze medal winners are: Phillip Van (TSOA/Kanbar graduate student) for High Maintenance and Anthony Green ‘06 (Kanbar/TSOA undergraduate alumnus) for Screening, respectively.

The NYU winners join a long list of past award recipients from the University-including Spike Lee. In all, 11 film students from six colleges and universities as well as one from Germany were honored by the Academy. The awards were given out at a gala ceremony that featured actress Zooey Deschanel, director John Landis, and Academy President Sid Ganis as presenters.
