New York University’s Jazz Orchestra and “Saturday Night Live” saxophonist Lenny Pickett will perform Mon., Jan. 29 (sets at 7:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m.) at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola (Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, 5th Floor). For more information, call the Jazz at Lincoln Center office at 212.258.9800 or go to www.jalc.org. Reservations are made through www.OpenTable.com.
The online music magazine Concertlivewire recently named “NYU Jazz Orchestra Plays the Music of Teo Macero” one of the top 10 jazz albums of 2006. “That the solos throughout are so compact, yet say so much, is a testament not only to the players themselves, but also to the fine NYU program, as well as to the producer and arrangers who set the stage for their students so well,” JazzChicago.net’s Brad Walseth wrote of the performance.
NYU’s Jazz Orchestra is part of the Steinhardt School’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, where Pickett is an adjunct faculty member.
