NYU President John Sexton and Provost David McLaughlin have sent the following letter to the members of the Graduate Affairs Committee of the Student Senators Council/University Committee on Student Life acknowledging receipt of the report and accepting its recommendations:
Dear Members of the Graduate Affairs Committee:
We are pleased to receive your proposal of April 27 to create a “House of Delegates,” to represent the graduate assistants at NYU. The proposal is well constructed, with input incorporated from wide-ranging graduate student sources from throughout the University. For these reasons, we accept this proposal from the Graduate Affairs Committee of the Student Senators Council/University Committee on Student Life on behalf of the University administration.
We ask the Graduate Affairs Committee immediately to seek nominations from a representative pool of graduate assistants across the University to form the “Structure Committee” consistent with the proposed approach in your report. The Structure Committee should then design the election process to select representative membership in the House of Delegates, and hold this election in the early fall of 2006.
It is very important for graduate assistants at NYU that the House of Delegates be formed by an election early next fall. As this is an aggressive time-line, the University administration is willing to work over the summer with the Graduate Affairs Committee and the Structure Committee to help expedite the process.
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to you, the members of the Graduate Affairs Committee of the SSC/UCSL, for this proposal (http://www.nyu.edu/pages/stugov/MiscellanousDocs/GACReport427_06.pdf ) . The task was difficult and time consuming for you, and you produced an excellent proposal. On behalf of the entire University community, we thank you for it.
Sincerely,
John Sexton President, New York University | David W. McLaughlin Provost, New York University |
