Carol Bellamy, class of ‘68 and former executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), will address the convocation of the New York University School of Law class of 2006, which will be held Friday, May 12, at Madison Square Garden, 32 Penn Plaza in New York City.
Carol Bellamy is currently the Susan B. Plimpton chair of the Board of Trustees of World Learning, one of the world’s first non-profit, international educational organizations. Bellamy was executive director of UNICEF from 1995to 2006. Trained in corporate law and finance, Bellamy had a distinguished career in the private sector. She was a managing director of Bear Stearns from 1990 to 1993, and a principal at Morgan Stanley from 1986 to 1990. Between 1968 and 1971 she was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. Bellamy also spent thirteen years as an elected public official, including five years in the New York State Senate (from 1973 to 1977). In 1978, she became the first woman to be elected president of the New York City Council, a position she held until 1985.

Upon arrival at The Mall area, walk to the glass doors located to the right of the main Theater entrance. Take the escalator up one flight to the mezzanine level. Walk straight back to the Club Bar & Grill (Grill Room) and check in at the desk. NYU staff will be in the Grill Room to greet you and give directions to the processional.
