Performance Dates: March 30-April 3

The Second Avenue Dance Company/2006 will present its spring concert series featuring the work of four noted guest choreographers-Karole Armitage, Merce Cunningham, Dwight Rhoden, and Bill Young. The series will premiere three new works by Armitage, Rhoden, and Young. It will also include work rotating in repertory by four student choreographers.

Two casts of six dancers each will perform an excerpt from Cunningham’s Changing Steps (1973); music by John Cage. The work has been staged for Second Avenue Dance Company/2006 by former Cunningham company dancer Cheryl Therrien.

The world premieres are: Karole Armitage’s Cantus Arcticus, a poetic new work for 11 women on pointe to Concerto for Birds and Orchestra by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara; Dwight Rhoden’s stunning new work for 14 dancers entitled Phoenix Variations; and Bill Young’s witty new work Outside Art, which features a commissioned score by Mio Morales.

The six performance series opens Thursday, March 30 and runs through Monday, April 3. Curtain is 8 p.m. There will be one matinee on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Admission is $10; seniors and students with ID, $5. All proceeds will benefit Tisch Dance Scholarship Fund.
