EVENT DRAWS PRESIDENT OF GREEK PARLIAMENT

“Democracy Re-Examined: Modern Variations on an Ancient Greek Theme,” a lecture by Cambridge University Professor Paul Cartledge, will be delivered at New York University’s Silverstein Lounge (100 Washington Square East, between Washington Place and Waverly Place) on Wed., Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. The event is co-hosted by the Hellenic Parliament. The president of Greece’s parliamentary body, Anna Benaki, will be in attendance.

Cartledge’s works include The Greeks: Crucible of Civilization (BBC Worldwide, 2001) and Spartan Reflections (Duckworth/University of California Press, 2001). The lecture celebrates the establishment of the Hellenic Parliament Global Distinguished Professorship at NYU. Cartledge, the first to hold this title, will have this professorship for two years.
