“New York University has not yet received any subpoenas related to the suit RIAA announced today, though we did receive a letter from them yesterday indicating that they were filing such a suit against a number of John Doe’ IP addresses at NYU.
“The University complies with lawful subpoenas, and we will review these subpoenas when they arrive.
“The University, as an institution that creates knowledge, is deeply respectful of the need to protect intellectual property and copyright. It is also our hope, however, that these lawsuits do not generally chill our students’ interest in making use of and exploring the internet.”
