Opening Fri. Feb. 7 at NYU’s Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 W. 4th St.
A revised and updated Babes In Arms opens Friday, February 7 running through February 16 at the Frederick Loewe Theatre presented by New York University’s Music Theatre program in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions in The Steinhardt School of Education.
The new book is written by Joe DiPietro, with special permission from Mary Rodgers Guttel and Linda Rodgers Emory and the Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatre Library. DiPietro wrote the book for They All Laughed! The New Gershwin Musical, slated for a Fall 2003 opening on Broadway and the off-Broadway hit I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
Set in 1937 in Seaport, Long Island, the musical comedy tells the story of the zany antics of a group of abandoned teenagers who put on a show to avoid being sent to a workfarm. Additional Rodgers and Hart songs which have been added to the book include “Blue Moon,” “You Took Advantage of Me,” “With a Song in My Heart” and “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.”
Greg Ganakas, artistic director for NYU’s Music Theatre program and a director for Goodspeed Musicals, directs this production. The show is choreographed by Randy Skinner, choreographer for the current Broadway production of 42nd Street.
