The Department of Teaching and Learning in The Steinhardt School of Education at NYU announces a new accelerated master’s degree program especially designed for recent college graduates and career changers seeking teacher certification. The 14-month, full-time program provides the same benefits of regular full-time study in four consecutive semesters, including summer sessions. Application deadline for the inaugural class is March 1, 2003.
“While this is an accelerated program, we are still offering the same top-ranked master’s programs in the attentive, mentoring and collegial environment that is a hallmark of our Department of Teaching and Learning,” said Mark Alter, chair, Department of Teaching and Learning. “Our senior faculty members are leading the program and have designed a cutting edge curriculum that will prepare teachers for work in real world conditions that exist today in New York City schools and other urban settings.”
This program supports the New York State mandate requiring fully certified teachers in New York City public schools. More than 10 education disciplines are available in the accelerated format, including early childhood and childhood, all secondary subjects and special education. Course work will include field training, enabling students to both observe and complete student teaching in a diverse cross-section of New York City schools. Students begin their coursework during the summer session and the program is completed the following summer.
