WHEN: Thursday, December 12, 8:30-10:30 a.m. WHERE: New York University’s Greenberg Lounge in Vanderbilt Hall 40 Washington Square South Diana Lam, Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning for New York City public schools, will discuss her instructional plans for the school system at The Steinhardt School of Education’s policy breakfast.

Lam came to New York in August from Rhode Island where she served as superintendent for the Providence Public Schools. She is credited with overhauling the administration and the city’s high schools and implementing a citywide literacy program. Ms. Lam won national acclaim as superintendent in San Antonio, Texas, for improving students’ academic achievement during her tenure. She also served as superintendent in Dubuque, Iowa, and Chelsea, Massachusetts.

The Education Policy Breakfast Series brings together policy leaders, legislators, business people, heads of corporations, foundations and advocacy organizations, university faculty, higher education leaders, and school superintendents. The goal is to illuminate contemporary educational issues and foster discussion among the many constituencies concerned with education policy at both the local and national levels.
