Trailer Girl and Other Stories navigates the terrain of alienation and loss. In the title story, a vagrant insists there’s a wild child hiding among the cows in the gully. Others in the trailer park think it’s just herself she’s chasing, but no one helps her sort out the truth until there’s a murder. In the story “Psychic,” a clairvoyant knows she’s been hired by a murderer; in “Leadership,” a tiny spaceship lands between a boy and his parents; and in “Lost the Baby,” a partying couple forget where they dropped off their baby.
Svoboda is the author of the novel Cannibal, selected by Spin magazine as one of the ten best novels of 1994. She is also the author of the 1999 novel, A Drink Called Paradise, and three books of poetry, Al Aberration, Laughing Africa, and Mere Mortals.
