NEW DEANS
Michael C. Alfano, D.M.D, Ph.D. previously vice president for research and technology at Block Drug Company and an adjunct professor of periodontics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey has been named Dean of the NYU College of Dentistry
Robert M. Glickman, M.D. previously the Henry L. Blumgart Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Physician-in-Chief and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has been named Dean of the NYU School of Medicine
Peter Lennie a neuroscientist and previously the chair of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Rochester has been named Dean for Science in NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science
E. Frances White previously Dean of Faculty at Hampshire College in Massachusetts has been named Dean of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study

Edward Berenson an historian of modern French society and culture, a contributor to state and national curricular standards in history, and previously the chairman of general education in the College of Letters and Science at UCLA will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science in the History Department
Robert Cohen previously a professor at the University of Georgia will join NYU’s School of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning
Stephen Cohen an historian of the politics and foreign policy of Russia and the Soviet Union and previously a professor of politics and Russian studies at Princeton University will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science in the Department of Russian and Slavic Studies
George W. Downs previously the Class of 1942 Professor of Peace and War at Princeton University will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science as chairman of the Politics Department
Troy Duster previously a professor of sociology and director of the Institute for the Study of Social Change at the University of California-Berkeley will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science in the Sociology Department
Glennys Farrar previously a professor in the high energy theory group at Rutgers University will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science as chair of the Physics Department
Michael Keane an economist and previously a professor at the University of Minnesota will join NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science in the Economics Department
Judith Miller a scholar of contemporary French drama and previously the chair of the French Department at the University of Wisconsin has been named director of the “NYU in Paris” program
James Ohlson previously the George O. May Professor at the Columbia University School of Business has been named the Stern Professor of Business at NYU’s Stern School of Busines
Arvind Rajagopal a member of the Institute for Advanced Study and previously a professor at Purdue University’s Department of Communications will join NYU’s School of Education in the Department of Culture and Communications
Paul Thompson a writer, director and actor who was previously head of Film and Television at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School and a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art will join NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts
Eitan Zemel previously the Harold L. Stuart Professor of Management at Northwestern’s Kellogg School has been named the W. Edwards Deming Professor of Quality and Productivity at NYU’s Stern School of Business
VISITING PROFESSORSHIPS
Robert Brawer - former president and CEO of Maidenform Worldwide and author of “Fictions of Business: Insights on Management from Great Literature” will lecture on business and literature as an adjunct associate professor of social sciences in NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies
Suzanne Carothers previously a professor of education at City College of New York will be a visiting professor at NYU’s School of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning
Frederick Cooper a leading scholar on Africa, slavery and emancipation, labor and colonialism who is on leave from the University of Michigan’s History Department will be a visiting professor in NYU’s History Department
Jacques Derrida the French literary theorist will teach in NYU’s English Department and deliver several public lectures
Stephen Jay Gould the Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology and professor of geology at Harvard University will be the Vincent Astor Research Professor of Biology and be teaching in NYU’s Biology Department.
Paul Volcker former chairman of the Federal Reserve will be the Henry Kaufman Visiting Professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business
Thomas Woll - President of Cross River Publishing Consultants and author of “Principles of Profitability in Book Publishing”, will be a Visiting Professor of Publishing teaching in the Masters Program in publishing at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Lester Wunderman - founding partner of Wunderman Cato Johnson, a leading direct marketing firm will be a Visiting Clinical Professor of Direct Marketing in NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies’ Center for Direct Marketing Management.
