Special Initiatives Highlights

What was your programming like this year? Anything new? Anything traditional?
Under the leadership of Christy Dure, the AMC Brave Readers Club continued with the same format as the prior year, but with two additional essay collections: Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall and Poverty, By America by Matthew Desmond. Each month, participants read assigned chapter(s) and discussed it as a group. Each session had a mix of returning readers from previous chapters and new readers interested in engaging with the topics. Christy facilitated discussion and dialogue that helped everyone engage with the systemic at a personal level and reflect on NYU as an institution.

What do you want to focus on next year?
Christy has recently left NYU for an amazing opportunity elsewhere. The AMC looks forward to continued sponsorship of this initiative. There is now an opportunity for an administrator with good facilitation skills and a passion for anti-racism work to carry this initiative on to the next year and beyond.

What was your programming like this year? Anything new? Anything traditional?
The OpenAMC Working Group meets monthly to review new submissions as well as analyze trends to assess ideas that need to be addressed. Members of the group taking on a variety of tasks and providing critical feedback.

What do you want to focus on next year?
Finding opportunities to collaborate across the AMC and University to address the ideas and concerns of Administrators to ensure that NYU continues to innovate and be a best in class employer and institution of higher education.

What three words would you use to describe your progress this year?
Slow, Steady, Deliberative
