Our NYU

A Note from President Hamilton

Congratulations to the class of 2021! And I should also add a hearty “well done” to our students, faculty, and administrators who made it to the end of the semester. This time of year is always bittersweet, as we send off graduates with joy and hope for what the future holds. Some 19,100 students received degrees, and thanks to the reach of technology, I was able to address students at each campus and nearly every school ceremony.

Commencement capped an unusual, challenging year that none of us could have anticipated, which all of you navigated with grace and courage. Despite the hurdles, it was filled with many achievements, of which each of you should be extremely proud.

On all of our campuses there was a celebratory spirit in the air, and we also hosted online tributes to the class of 2021. I hope you’ll enjoy this brief capsule of graduation images from New York, NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and remote locations around the world.

To our new graduates: Jennie and I wish you the best in all of your new endeavors; we shall miss you and we hope you will stay in touch (and, of course, we look forward to welcoming you back for an in-person Commencement ceremony). And to returning faculty, staff, and students, I hope you have a safe and restful summer—I look forward to seeing you in the fall, when we return in full.
