John Beckman
Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Strategic Communications
John Beckman is the Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Strategic Communications.
In this role, he serves as the University's chief spokesperson, and has responsibility for the Public Affairs office, NYU Today, the NYU Information Center, Advertising and Publications, Media Production, the Photo Bureau, and the Office of Web Communications. He works closely with Senior Vice President Lynne Brown in shaping the overall communications strategy for the University.
He came to NYU in 1996 after a decade in New York City government, where his posts included director of public information for the Board of Education and press secretary to the New York City Schools Chancellor, Assistant Press Secretary to former Mayor David Dinkins, Director of Communications for the Department of General Services, and press secretary for the Human Resources Administration, the city's social services department.
Beckman received his B.A. in classical languages from Dartmouth College in 1983.
